Arising from the major connector,the minor connector joints the major connector with other parts of the denture.For example,each direct retainer and each occlusal rest are joined to the major connector by a minor connector.

    The minor connector must have sufficient bulk to be rigid;otherwise the transfer of the stresses and of other components cannot be effective.At the same time,the bulk of minor connector must be as unobjectionable as possible.A minor connector contracting the axial surface of an abutment should be located on a convex surface but instead should be located in an embrasure in which it will be least noticeable to the tongue.Generally the minor connectors should form a right angle with the major connector.When a major connector contacts tooth surfaces on either side of the embrasure in which it lies,it should be tapered to the teeth so that the tongue may encounter a smooth surface.Sharp angles should be avoided,and spaces should not exist for trapping of food debris.
