A major connector is the unit of partial denture that connects the parts of the prosthesis located on one side of the arch with those on the opposite side.It is that unit of the partial denture to which all other parts are directly or indirectly attached. It is through the rigidity of the major connector that all other components of partial denture may be effective.Design of major connectors must be determined during diagnostic and treatment planning phases because mouth preparation procedures depend in part on the contemplated design of major connectors.
Location of the major connectors
1,They should be free of movable tissues.
2,Relief should be provided beneath a major connector.
3,Impingement of gingival tissues should be avoided.

5,They should be located or relieved to prevent impingement of tissues as the distal extension denture rotates in function.
